2011 was a good year for us. Our financial situation vastly improved, so we were able to do a lot of things we’d been putting off. I got all of my teeth fixed, Bryan and I each got new glasses, and Bryan underwent the knife so we won’t have to worry anymore about giving Nicholas an accidental brother or sister. We finally joined the 21st century and got the Wi-Fi at home, a blue-ray player, and a smartphone, and we paid off enough bills that it looks like we’ll be able to move into a much nice apartment by our anniversary this year. Yes, this was a good year!
This year also came with some much needed lessons, from ones that were fun to learn and not-so-fun:
I learned how to bake, like really bake, like put Betty Crocker to shame bake. I also learned do not broil marshmallows unless the rack is on the lowest position possible, or you will set the oven on fire (at least in our crappy oven).
I learned that I can do more than I ever thought possible, as long as I stay organized and not try to do everything at once.
I learned that some people are simply bad and there is no changing them, and that life is so much better once you cut them completely out of yours. You can’t fix stupid, but you can’t fix hateful either, and when you find a person who is both, stay far far away!
I learned that I have the best husband ever (yes, I already knew that, but it was definitely reinforced this year). I am very lucky to have found a respectful, intelligent, funny, loyal, and amazing man who loves me as much as I love him.
I learned that Nicholas really might be an evil genius someday. That kid is only two and can frickin read and count and is starting to learn to add. Yeah, that’s my son!
I can only hope that 2012 is as good as 2011. I know it won’t be perfect, but if we keep together, keep working hard, and keep loving each other, we have a lot to look forward to.
