Dinosaur Train Birthday Bash

Posted by nattya61 on April 27, 2012

The week before we moved (post to come on that later), we had a Dinosaur Train Birthday Bash for Nick’s third birthday. He loved it! It took a bit of planning, but once everything was all decorated, it looked great! Read the rest of this entry »

Three!!

Posted by nattya61 on April 4, 2012

Nicholas turns three tomorrow! All I have left to do for his party  is vacuum and move some boxes into the bedroom tomorrow before we head out to get his cake and cookies. This year his birthday seems even more special because he really understands that tomorrow is his birthday and that means a party, chocolate cake, and presents. He has grown up so much in just the past month. He read his first book and can spell and write even more words now. It’s so cute to watch him walk around saying, “Happy Birthday, Nicholas!” followed by him spelling it out. He’s also more cuddly than ever. He loves to come up to us and ask for kisses and hugs. Then he’ll say, “Awe! So sweet!”

It still seems like just yesterday Bryan and I were in the hospital, anxiously waiting for Nicholas to pop out. My pregnancy and delivery were anything but easy, but I’d do it all over again to have my little boy. I wouldn’t do it for any other kid except for him.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Nicholas! We love you, forever and ever!

“Only” Is Not a Dirty Word

Posted by nattya61 on June 9, 2011

I read about the upcoming documentary Rise of the Onlies (http://www.riseoftheonlies.com/) and decided to write a bit of our story for it (and received a very nice e-mail back from the filmmaker). Here it is: Read the rest of this entry »

Strange Child

Posted by nattya61 on April 28, 2011

We are constantly saying that Nick is pretty odd. He likes to walk with his hands and feet touching the floor and his butt up in the air. He loves to turn in circles and make himself dizzy. He’s obsessed with the weather, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. His favorite game is to read out what we write on his MagnaDoodle. Now, his tastes in food are falling right in line with the rest of his quirks.

Our little two year old has turned into a true carnivore. He goes crazy over sausage and barbeque chicken. He’ll eat a hamburger if there’s no bun. He also loves strong tasting things. If it’s got garlic on it, he’ll eat it. He loves just plain lettuce with Italian dressing. He also likes dill pickles and onions. But, try to get him to eat the types of foods most toddlers eat and he just turns away and says, “No! Yucky!”

Strange child.

That's my boy!

Holidays!

Posted by nattya61 on December 31, 2010

Well, it’s been a while. Nick has been growing and changing so much in the past few months. We had a quiet Thanksgiving at home, which allowed us to really gear up for Christmas. We went all out this year and decorated every room in the apartment. Nick loved looking at the Christmas tree, stockings, and presents. For Christmas, I took the week off and on Thursday we traveled to Salem to be with family. We had a great time and Nick really took in a haul of gifts this year. We are so thankful for our family and our time together.

I was sad when Christmas was over, but now I’m getting excited about Valentine’s Day and Nick’s birthday. It’s like the holidays are only half way through for us! I love Valentine’s Day with all the hearts and red and pink everywhere. Then, in April Nick will turn 2! I can hardly believe it. He’s turning into such a sweet little boy who loves to give kisses and hugs.

The Tuesday before Christmas we had some family pictures taken. I was excited with how well they turned out.

Ready for a day at the office.

Really wanting to run.

Such a cute little pose.

Sweet!

Trying to run away again.

Adorable!

He fell once and didn't let go of the ball.

Perfect!

Talking

Posted by nattya61 on August 18, 2010

Nicholas is slowly learning to talk…and I mean slowly. At least it seems very slow to us. I think it’s more that he just doesn’t want to talk most of the time. Sometimes we’ll point to Elmo and he’ll actually say “Elmo.” Other times he’ll just screech or ignore us. Bryan does alphabet flashcards with him every day. Some days he’ll get a lot of them. Other days, nothing.

Remember when we thought Nick would never walk. I wonder if his talking will be like that. One day we’ll just catch him doing it. Once he realizes that he’s been found out, that he actually knows how to talk and can’t trick us into thinking he can’t much anymore, then he’ll start doing it all the time. Here’s hoping!

Such a tease!

Haircut #2

Posted by nattya61 on July 12, 2010

Nicholas got his second haircut on Saturday. He was not happy. I think he was still traumatized from his shots on Wednesday, so he wasn’t sure what was going to happen. After it was all over, he was fine. Here’s our handsome little man…with no more hair falling into his eyes.

He looks like he's ready for kindergarten.

So handsome!
