Dinosaur Train Birthday Bash

Posted by nattya61 on April 27, 2012

The week before we moved (post to come on that later), we had a Dinosaur Train Birthday Bash for Nick’s third birthday. He loved it! It took a bit of planning, but once everything was all decorated, it looked great! Read the rest of this entry »

Happy Anniversary!

Posted by nattya61 on April 27, 2012

Four years ago yesterday, I married the most amazing, handsome, funny, intelligent man. He respects me, understands me, and makes each day better than the one before. With Bryan, things are easy, with that perfect mix of comfortable and exciting.

I love you, Bryan! Forever and ever!

Three!!

Posted by nattya61 on April 4, 2012

Nicholas turns three tomorrow! All I have left to do for his party  is vacuum and move some boxes into the bedroom tomorrow before we head out to get his cake and cookies. This year his birthday seems even more special because he really understands that tomorrow is his birthday and that means a party, chocolate cake, and presents. He has grown up so much in just the past month. He read his first book and can spell and write even more words now. It’s so cute to watch him walk around saying, “Happy Birthday, Nicholas!” followed by him spelling it out. He’s also more cuddly than ever. He loves to come up to us and ask for kisses and hugs. Then he’ll say, “Awe! So sweet!”

It still seems like just yesterday Bryan and I were in the hospital, anxiously waiting for Nicholas to pop out. My pregnancy and delivery were anything but easy, but I’d do it all over again to have my little boy. I wouldn’t do it for any other kid except for him.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Nicholas! We love you, forever and ever!

What Your Child Needs to Know Before…Kindergarten?

Posted by nattya61 on March 13, 2012

I was playing around on Pinterest and ran across the blog post “71 Things Your Child Needs to Know Before Kindergarten.” I clicked on the link because I honestly don’t know much about kids other than Nick, and I have very little idea of what a typical kindergartener is like or needs to know before starting school. I was kind of shocked after reading the 71 things. Here is the list and my thoughts about each one and answering if Nick can do each one, so you’ll see why some of these seemed a little odd to me. Almost Three!

Posted by nattya61 on March 13, 2012

Last Saturday we used our awesome JCP Portrait Studio Groupon and got both family pictures and Nick’s third birthday pictures taken. Nick was not very cooperative for the family pictures, but he did really well for the pictures of him alone. He’s at that age now where he’s more comfortable with people and will actually smile for the camera. The problem is just getting him to sit still long enough to do it. Read the rest of this entry »

Discover

Posted by nattya61 on January 19, 2012

Monday, Bryan and I were actually both off work on the same day, so we decided to take Nick downtown to the Discovery Center. We had a blast. I talk a lot of crap about Springfield sometimes, but we are really lucky to be raising Nick in a town that has a place like this. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 – The Year in Review

Posted by nattya61 on December 30, 2011

2011 was a good year for us. Our financial situation vastly improved, so we were able to do a lot of things we’d been putting off. I got all of my teeth fixed, Bryan and I each got new glasses, and Bryan underwent the knife so we won’t have to worry anymore about giving Nicholas an accidental brother or sister. We finally joined the 21st century and got the Wi-Fi at home, a blue-ray player, and a smartphone, and we paid off enough bills that it looks like we’ll be able to move into a much nice apartment by our anniversary this year. Yes, this was a good year!

This year also came with some much needed lessons, from ones that were fun to learn and not-so-fun:

I learned how to bake, like really bake, like put Betty Crocker to shame bake. I also learned do not broil marshmallows unless the rack is on the lowest position possible, or you will set the oven on fire (at least in our crappy oven).

I learned that I can do more than I ever thought possible, as long as I stay organized and not try to do everything at once.

I learned that some people are simply bad and there is no changing them, and that life is so much better once you cut them completely out of  yours. You can’t fix stupid, but you can’t fix hateful either, and when you find a person who is both, stay far far away!

I learned that I have the best husband ever (yes, I already knew that, but it was definitely reinforced this year). I am very lucky to have found a respectful, intelligent, funny, loyal, and amazing man who loves me as much as I love him.

I learned that Nicholas really might be an evil genius someday. That kid is only two and can frickin read and count and is starting to learn to add. Yeah, that’s my son!

I can only hope that 2012 is as good as 2011. I know it won’t be perfect, but if we keep together, keep working hard, and keep loving each other, we have a lot to look forward to.

A Very Merry Kendall Christmas Extravaganza

Posted by nattya61 on December 26, 2011

After a long absence from the blogging world, I decided to write a little post about our Christmas. It was probably the best Christmas I’ve had as an adult. We kept things relaxed this year and stayed at home, so everything seemed extra cozy. Even though we don’t celebrate Christmas like the average Missourians, we still have a lot of fun with our own meaningful traditions. Read the rest of this entry »
